Day 3 of the Heat Wave....
6/22/2012
Friday Weather Headlines
* Last Day of of projected heatwave(records broken at LGA: 98, JFK: 97, ISP: 95; Bridgeport: 96)
* Slight risk for severe thunderstorms this afternoon with a cold front
* Drier and more seasonable for the weekend (middle 80s)
HEAT ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 7 PM EDT THIS EVENING.. HEAT INDICES 95 TO 100 DEGREES
Today we'll finally lose grip of that Bermuda High(subtropical area of high pressure in the North Atlantic Ocean centered off the East Coast of Bermuda), but before one more hot and humid day with highs in the lower 90s. We also have a short wave trough riding along the cold front(a disturbance in the middle part of the atmosphere which induces upward motion ahead of it-can contribute to thunderstorm development)Some showers and thunderstorms will pop up this afternoon just in time for the evening commute so bring the umbrella if you don't want to get wet(but I think you'd kind of like it!).
Humidity is not a great measurement of how much moisture is in the air because the warmer it is the moisture the atmosphere can hold. It can be 95 with a humidity of just 45%. Dewpoints(the temperature to which air must be cooled in order to reach saturation) will be in the lower 70s so it will feel sticky all day.
Tonight some scattered showers and thunderstorms, otherwise cloudy with lows in the lower 70s. A few clouds to start off Saturday, but then sunshine as drier air moves in with highs in the middle 80s. Mostly sunny for Sunday with highs still in the middle 80s, but then we'll have a chance of rain late Sunday night and into Monday morning.
Have a great Friday, a great weekend, and be sure to follow my updates on my Facebook Weather Page!
